NO JOB IS TOO SMALL
My experience includes 34 years as a state police officer, ten years with the SC Public Service Commission during the beginning stages of the Federal safety programs now enforced by the State Transport Police (STP) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Then 23 years with STP, of which 15 of these years as a State Transport Police Captain; My duties were in enforcement supervision, state and federal program management, complaint and internal investigations, which required massive amounts of record keeping, investigative notes, interviews, and writing final reports. A major part of my responsibility was to address substandard work performance, correct the issues with the employee, and if needed draft and manage a work improvement plan. During my earlier years with STP, I of course conducted all levels of inspections, enforced traffic laws, hazardous and radiological material inspections. After retiring from the state in February 2016, I worked as a trucking company Safety Director and gained understanding of safety operations, management practices, liability concerns, and becoming a Smith Systems Instructor (defensive driving). In August 2016, I returned to SC Department of Public Safety to gain more in-depth investigative experience as a Background Investigator, responsible for running very thorough backgrounds on applicants for the Highway Patrol. In February 2017, I moved to the Office of Professional Responsibility, within SC Department of Safety (SCDPS), to conduct internal investigations which are in-depth investigations concerning employee misconduct, failures in job performance, and unprofessional behavior.
